The Holy Spirit- The Power Of God

Luke 24:49
The Holy Spirit

Breath, wind or spirit

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word Ruach means “breath or wind or spirit“.

In the New Testament, the Greek word Pneuma means “breath or spirit or wind“.

Nearly all English Bibles use the word Spirit

a much better word than Ghost.

God`s power

Throughout the Bible the Holy Spirit is spoken of as being God’s power

or the manifestation of God`s presence and power.

2 Timothy 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

In His servants

The Holy Spirit is the very nature, presence and expression of God’s power

actively working in His servants.

Acts 10:38
 The Holy Spirit is the very presence of God’s power actively working in His servants.

Romans 15:13, 19

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,

that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

19 in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from

Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

Zechariah 4:6

So he answered and said to me:

“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’

Says the Lord of hosts.

Micah 3:8

But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord,

And of justice and might,

To declare to Jacob his transgression

And to Israel his sin.

Luke 1:35

35 And the angel answered and said to her,

“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,

and the power of the Highest will overshadow you;

therefore, also,

that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

Luke 4:14

14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee,

and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.

Luke 3:21-22

Not a person

In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is spoken of in many ways that demonstrate that

it is not a divine person.

For example, the Holy Spirit is referred to as a gift (Acts 2:38; 10:45; 1 Timothy 4:14).

We are told that it can be quenched (1 Thessalonians 5:19),

that it can be poured out (Acts 2:17; 10:45),

and that we are baptized with it (Matthew 3:11).

It must be stirred up within us (2 Timothy 1:6), and it also renews us (Titus 3:5).

These are certainly not attributes of a person.

1 Thessalonians 5-19

Let`s look closer what the Bible says…

And what Yeshua/ Jesus said:

John 14:16-17,26; 16:7

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper,

that He may abide with you forever

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,

because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him,

for He dwells with you and will be in you.

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name,

He will teach you all things,

and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away;

for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you;

but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

John 20:21-22

21 So Jesus said to them again,

“Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them,

“Receive the Holy Spirit.

Acts 1-4 Do Not Leave Jerusalem But Wait
Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;

Luke 24:47-49

47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name

to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 And you are witnesses of these things.

49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you;

but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

What happened next ??

Acts 2:4-6

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and

began to speak with other tongues,

as the Spirit gave them utterance.

And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men,

from every nation under heaven.

And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together,

and were confused,

because everyone heard them speak in his own language.

Acts 2:16-18 (Joel 2:28-29)

16 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,

That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,

Your young men shall see visions,

Your old men shall dream dreams.

18 And on My menservants and on My maidservants

I will pour out My Spirit in those days;

And they shall prophesy.

What else did Yeshua/ Jesus say ??

John 3:3,5

Jesus answered and said to him,

“Most assuredly, I say to you,

unless one is born again,

he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Jesus answered,

“Most assuredly, I say to you,

unless one is born of water and the Spirit,

he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

Acts 2:38

38 Then Peter said to them,

and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ

for the remission of sins;

and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 10:44-48

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

44 While Peter was still speaking these words,

the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished,

as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit

had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

Then Peter answered,

47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized

who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.

Then they asked him to stay a few days.

Acts 19:6

Acts 19:1-6

1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul,

having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus.

And finding some disciples

he said to them,

“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

So they said to him,

“We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”

So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”

Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance,

saying to the people that they should believe on Him

who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them,

and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.

These are the 3 signs when someone “borns again”:

We need to:

  • be baptized by immersion in water in the name of

        Yeshua Messiah (Jesus Christ)

  • receive the gift of the Holy Spirit –>

  • evidenced by speaking in other tongues

If a person receives the Holy Spirit, it is evidenced by speaking in other tongues.

Mark 16:17, Acts 2:4, 10:45-46

17 And these signs will follow those who believe:

In My name they will cast out demons;

they will speak with new tongues.

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and

began to speak with other tongues,

as the Spirit gave them utterance.

45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished,

as many as came with Peter,

because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

My opinion however is that speaking tongues afterwards is not necessarily

a permanent gift of the Holy Spirit.

We have different gifts because God has blessed us in different ways;

so according to the grace given to us, we have different gifts.

We always have those gifts that we need in that moment.

But if a person receives the Holy Spirit,

it is always evidenced by speaking in other tongues.

Acts 10:46

We take the water baptism into Yeshua/ Jesus, because we want to follow Him,

for the remission of sins and for the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).

Gl 3:27

Galatians 3:27, Romans 6:3-4

27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus

were baptized into His death?

Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death,

that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father,

even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Just like the whole Israel took the water baptism into Moses

1 Corinthians 10:1-2

1 Moreover, brethren,

I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud,

all passed through the sea,

all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.

1 Cr 10:2

The Holy Spirit is a seal

Ephesians 1:13, 4:30, 2 Corinthians 1:22

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth,

the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed,

you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,

by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

You have the Holy Spirit or you have not-

its so simple.

But you can also lose the Holy Spirit !!

Just remember what David did pray:

Psalms 51:11

11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,

And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

Psalm 51 (link below):

Psalm 51

Do you have one or some of the gifts of the Holy Spirit ??

1 Corinthians 12:8-10

for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit,

to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit,

to another faith by the same Spirit,

to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit,

10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy,

to another discerning of spirits,

to another different kinds of tongues,

to another the interpretation of tongues.

Romans 12:6-8

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us,

let us use them:

if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith;

or service, let us use it in our serving; he who teaches, in teaching;

he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads,

with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Galatians 5:22-23

Do you have one or some of the fruits of the Spirit ??

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is

love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 gentleness, self-control.

Against such there is no law.

Ephesians 5:9

9  for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

Colossians 3:12

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on

tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering.

Yeshua did it for me
Yeshua (Jesus) did it for me !!
